Getting Started

Ready to podcast? Help yourself to our toolbox and let's craft a marketing channel together. The Podcast Refinery is a U.S.-based audio facility delivering high-quality audio productions to a worldwide client base. Thanks to the Internet we are able to service our customers creatively, efficiently, and most importantly, one-on-one.

Let’s walk through how a podcast typically comes together...

1. Conceptualize & Plan

You’ve already got your subject matter. You know the intended audience. Take a moment to imagine where your audience might be when they listen to your masterpiece. In the car? The morning dog walk? When planning out a podcast always remember less is more. A 20-minute podcast with a lot of meat on the bone is easier to listen to than a 60-minute program that rambles on and on. In fact, we advise capping episodes at 45 minutes.

Let's say your podcast is an important regional sales conference which originally ran over two hours. We would advise you to split it up into four, tightly woven podcast episodes as opposed to having one, very long epic of a podcast to sit through. Podcasting is all about giving your audience options. Business people are on the move yet still available to digest new information provided you don’t waste precious time . Thankfully, our audio people will slice out any dead air, coughs, and fumbles – so worry not. The podcast version of your big meeting will, in fact, play back a lot more smoothly and finish earlier than it did “live”.

We've put together a list of helpful tips where you can find more pre-production suggestions and ideas.

But let's get back to your podcast. Who is going to write the script? While some podcasts are a collection of company interviews and thus do not have a writing component other podcasts will require that you put pen to paper. The Podcast Refinery can either lend a hand in that department or write the entire text for you.

2. Send Your Audio Elements to Us

If you recorded audio at your office or in the field you will need a way to send audio content to us. It's easy. Go to our DROP BOX and upload your mp3 and wav files to the box and send them on their merry way.

Some customers send audio files to us via other methods such as yousendit.com or box.net. These too are efficient ways of sending large files through the Internet.
Alternatively you can burn all of your audio elements to a CD and simply drop it in the mail to us. Our mailing address is The Podcast Refinery - PO Box 1167 - Venice, FL 34284 USA.

3. We Begin Recording & Assembling Audio

Once we have everything from your office we go into the studio with voice talent and record a professional  'open' for your podcast (voice and music). We do a show 'wrap up' as well. The open and close are included with all price tiers.

Next, we add the 'body' of your podcast. If you are not providing audio content from your office and prefer that we voice the body then all we need from you is the script. Our nerdy proofreader will check your text for grammatical errors before voice talent adds life to your script. We have male and female voice talent available for all productions and we leave the choice up to you.

4. Podcast Perfection Delivered to You

When your podcast has been completed it will be sent to you electronically or burned to CD and FedEx-ed over night to your office.
